About Erik Brattberg

Erik Brattberg is a recognized expert on Europe, transatlantic relations and international security based in Washington, DC. Brattberg is currently the Director for the Europe Program and a Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC.

Mr. Brattberg has published widely on European and American foreign and security policy, NATO, Nordic-Baltic security, and transatlantic relations. He has previously worked on issues relating to Afghanistan, Middle East, terrorism, and international peace operations. He is the author of the report Europe, Afghanistan and the Transatlantic Relationship after 2014, published in May 2013 by SIPRI, and has contributed to the books Advancing U.S.-Nordic-Baltic Security Cooperation: Adapting Partnership to a New Security Environment, published in September 2014 by the Johns Hopkins SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations and Nordic-Baltic American Cooperation: Shaping the US-European Agenda, published in May 2012 by the Johns Hopkins SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations.

Originally from Sweden, Mr. Brattberg’s previous experience includes work for leading foreign policy think-tanks in Berlin, Brussels, London, Stockholm and Washington, DC. He was previously Research Associate at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. He has also held research positions with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), European Policy Centre (EPC) in Brussels, European Council on Foreign Relations, and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin.

He holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service where he attended as a Fulbright and Marcus Wallenberg scholar. Mr. Brattberg also holds an M.A. and B.A. in Political Science from Uppsala University in Sweden. He has received scholarships from the Swedish Fulbright Commission, Marcus Wallenberg Foundation. He is an alumn of several Young Leaders programs on both sides of the Atlantic.
